What’s happening in the market this week?

Know the important events and news release and follow the trend.

We are expecting mainly the 4 following market events.

1. ECB Monetary Policy Meeting

The European Central Bank will be holding its monetary policy meeting this week on Thursday.

The central bank is expected to leave the interest rates unchanged at the meeting.

Investors will be focused on how the central bank will give its forward guidance especially with rumors about members talking about aggressive easing.

This comes after the Eurozone’s economy is seen to be steadily slowing.

Recent data showed that the German economy would slow at a significant pace compared to the previous estimates

2. UK GDP Numbers

The economic data from the UK this week will include the monthly GDP numbers and the manufacturing and industrial production figures as well.

Manufacturing production is forecast to slow to a pace of just 0.2% on the month compared to the 0.8% increase seen the month before.

Industrial production figures are expected to rise at a pace of 0.1% compared to the 0.6% increase.

Construction output is expected to fall 0.2%.

This follows the previous month’s increase of 2.8%.

3. FOMC Meeting Minutes

The FOMC will be releasing its meeting minutes this week.

The meeting minutes will cover the minutes from the March meeting where the Fed signaled that it will be holding interest rates steady for the rest of the year.

The Fed also signaled that it would pause its balance sheet unwinding program as well.

Investors will be looking to the Fed minutes which could reveal more information about the Fed policy makers view of the markets.

Besides the Fed minutes, the factory orders report will also be coming out this week.

4. China Inflation Report

Data from China will be closely watched this week.

Economic data will include the annualized inflation report from the world’s second largest economy.

Economists forecast that China’s inflation would rise 2.4% on the year in March.

This would follow a weaker pace of increase in inflation of 1.5% in the month before.

Producer prices index data is also expected to rise modestly by 0.4% on the year.

This follows a 0.1% increase from the month before.

Monday, April 8th

On Monday, the news feed will be calm.

The publication of important economic reports is not planned.

At 15:30 (GMT+3:00) statistics on the real estate market will be published in Canada.

Tuesday, April 9th

On Tuesday, the news feed will be calm as well:

  • JOLTS job openings at 17:00 (GMT+3:00)

Wednesday, April 10th

On Wednesday, the ECB will announce its decision on the key interest rate at 14:45 (GMT+3:00).

It is expected that the regulator will keep the key marks of monetary policy at the same level.

Investors will also assess important economic releases:

  • UK GDP at 11:30 (GMT+3:00);
  • UK manufacturing production at 11:30 (GMT+3:00);
  • Report on inflation in the US at 15:30 (GMT+3:00).

At 21:00 (GMT+3:00) the FOMC minutes will be published.

We recommend paying attention to the comments by the Central Bank representatives.

Thursday, April 11th

On Thursday, we expect statistics on inflation in China at 04:30 (GMT+3:00).

At 15:30 (GMT+3:00) the producer price index will be published in the US.

Friday, April 12th

On Friday, the trading week will end with the following economic reports:

  • China trade balance at 06:00 (GMT+3:00);
  • Export and import price indexes in the US at 15:30 (GMT+3:00).
